Colorway synopsis:
While both the 1977 and the 2018 versions of Suspiria vary in their storyline and styling, here is a general synopsis for both: “Suspiria” follows an American dancer, Susanna (Susie Bannion) as she travels to Berlin to join a world-renowned dance company. While Susie suspiciously moves her way up to lead dancer very quickly, weird and witchy things begin to happen, and the deep-rooted sinister secrets that lie within the company begin to be shockingly revealed.
In the original, Italian-rooted version, Dario Argento’s 1977 “Suspiria,” yellow represents knowledge, clarity, and moments of escape that Susie Bannion experiences. “Giallo,” in Italian, literally translates to yellow, but it also is the name of a subgenre of horror. Giallo films are stylish and violent, gory and overbright slashers: like this Suspiria! Often they are murder mysteries, where the blood is an exaggerated red, the decor is lavish and colorful, and the soundtrack is loud and menacing.
